Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required; preferably Law, Political Science, Human Rights, or related field. Master’s degree in a related discipline preferred. Specialized training/certification in Refugee Law, Protection, Human Rights or Case Management is an advantage.
Job Responsibilities
- Apply international and national legal standards and BLAST code of conduct in protection work.
- Coordinate closely with BRAC/BLAST Legal Officers, UNHCR Protection Focal Points and refugee protection volunteers to form protection clusters across camps.
- Provide individual counselling on protection issues to refugees.
- Use an individual protection case management approach: develop case plans and manage referrals to services.
- Liaise and advocate with authorities to ensure issuance of documentation and access to justice.
- Maintain secure records of protection cases and interventions, and produce timely reports.
- Identify, record, and securely report protection incidents in assigned camps.
- Coordinate camp-level protection activities, including meetings, trainings, and interventions when assigned as sector focal point.
- Act as PERU focal point when required and support emergency protection response.
- Supervise and monitor protection volunteers and support their activities.
- Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for protection activities.
- Participate in initiatives to capacitate authorities and partner organizations on protection-related legislation and procedures.
- Monitor political, social, economic and cultural developments that affect protection environments.
- Perform other duties assigned by BLAST management and follow supervision guidance from the Protection Manager and Legal Coordinator.
Required Skills
- Protection case management and individual counselling
- Advocacy and liaison with authorities (police, administration, courts)
- Experience working with refugees, displaced and vulnerable populations
- Knowledge of international human rights law, international humanitarian law and SGBV contexts
- Strong written and spoken English; Bangla; knowledge of Chittagonian and/or Rohingya is an advantage
